learning experience and has given me more opportunities than I could have ever imagined coming in. I have become familiar with common illnesses, medications to treat these illnesses and medical terminology. To anyone interested in the medical field, scribing is the job for you!"

"While I was pretty sure that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine, this experience solidified it for me. I love what I'm doing and I'm getting paid to learn in

a way that just can't be replicated in the classroom. As an undergrad, to have this opportunity has been an absolute blessing!"

"I tell all the new scribes that I train how much this job is going to help them in their classes. It's one thing to read all this information in the textbook. But to experience it

firsthand is a completely different story. I can probably rattle off every cholesterol medication off the top of my head. I find myself predicting how the physician is going to diagnose and treat the patient before he or she does it. So when everybody else in class is memorizing all of this information, you'll be the one that deals with the information weekly at work. It's an unbelievable advantage."

"Being a medical scribe has benefited me in so many different ways. It's allowed to me to truly experience the day-to-day life of a physician in ways that shadowing for a couple of weeks cannot.

Many of the physicians have gone out of their way to offer me advice and teach! After so many hours scribing, I was better prepared for my MCAT and I'm very confident that I'll be best prepared once I enter medical school. I can't recommend this experience enough."

SHADOW HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

Make connections with healthcare providers that will serve you well in the future. It’s also necessary clinical exposure at the nitty gritty of provider-patient interaction. You will start to listen for the signs and symptoms that help a physician come to a diagnosis and will learn to anticipate them over time.

1.

EARN MONEY WHILE YOU LEARN

Learning is inherent in this job, so think of it as getting paid to go to school. You also won’t have to beg a physician to let you tag along on patient visits; you will actually be part of the health care team. We offer flexible hours to work around students’ schedules. School comes first!

2.

LEARN ABOUT THE MEDICAL RECORD

You will learn why the patient’s chief complaint is different from the history of present illness. You will understand the importance of the social history and mental status exam. The order will be more meaningful, and you will practice it so often that you could do it in your sleep.

3.

BE A PART OF A MEDICAL TEAM

You'll be able to observe the respect given to team members and watch them intuitively help one another. You will be better prepared to understand the different roles that build a healthcare team by seeing it in action.
